Surabaya, October 2, 2024 – In celebration of National Batik Day, students from the Mathematics Education Department at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya proudly wore batik as part of their lecture activities today. The classrooms were filled with vibrant colors and a cultural atmosphere, as students from various cohorts donned batik with diverse patterns.
Batik, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of Indonesia, is a symbol of national pride and identity. In honor of this special day, the students enthusiastically wore batik as a form of appreciation for local culture. The patterns they wore reflected the rich cultural heritage from various regions in Indonesia, ranging from traditional to contemporary designs, bringing a lively and unique energy to the classrooms.
This act demonstrates the awareness and commitment of Mathematics Education students in preserving the nation’s cultural heritage. Although no formal events were held to commemorate the day, wearing batik in the academic setting represents a simple yet meaningful gesture to instill a sense of pride and love for ancestral traditions.
The celebration of National Batik Day also symbolizes that cultural preservation doesn’t always require large-scale events. Sometimes, small actions like incorporating batik into daily life can serve as a real effort to uphold the values of cultural heritage.
The students of the Mathematics Education Department at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya hope that through this initiative, the younger generation will become increasingly aware of the importance of preserving Indonesia’s cultural heritage amidst the rapid pace of modernization.
