The International Office of Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel Surabaya (UINSA) is delighted to open registration for The UINSA Culture Immersion 2025 — a flagship international program designed to offer students from around the globe an authentic, hands-on experience of Indonesian life, culture, and values.
This one-of-a-kind cultural immersion will take place in a hybrid format, combining insightful online sessions with engaging in-person activities in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. This program welcomes undergraduate and postgraduate students from overseas universities who are passionate about cross-cultural understanding, sustainable development, and religious and social diversity.
Program Duration
Online Program:
July 23rd – 26th, 2025
Engage in virtual sessions that introduce Indonesian culture, prepare for your onsite visit, and connect with fellow participants from various countries.
Onsite Program (in Indonesia): July 28th – August 1st, 2025
Dive into real-life experiences through field visits, cultural workshops, and community interactions at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya and its surroundings.
Program Highlights
The UINSA Culture Immersion 2025 offers a unique blend of academic learning and cultural engagement. Participants will explore diverse topics including:
- Javanese Culture and Islamic Tradition
Discover the rich cultural heritage of Java and how Islam is practiced in harmony with local customs and values. - Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development
Learn about community-based agricultural practices, environmental consciousness, and Indonesia’s efforts toward sustainability. - Waste Reduction and Process
Take part in discussions and activities focused on environmental challenges, waste management strategies, and innovative local solutions. - Religious Pluralism in Java
Witness how people of different faiths live peacefully in one of the world’s most religiously diverse regions.
What We Provide
To support your journey, UINSA will provide the following during the onsite program:
Free accommodation for the entire duration of your stay in Surabaya- Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) during the onsite activities
- Cultural kits and transportation to field sites
- Certificate of Participation upon completion
Eligibility
To be eligible for this program, participants must:
- Be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student enrolled in an overseas university (outside Indonesia)
- Be committed to fully participating in both the online and onsite components of the program
- Have a good command of English (the primary language of communication during the program)
- Be enthusiastic about intercultural learning and community engagement.
