Surabaya – Principal researcher from the National Institute of Aviation and Space (LAPAN) which is part of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Nanang Widodo, attended a joint meeting with the Mathematics Study Program of State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the potential for research collaboration and internships for Students with Achievement on Independent Campus (MBKM). Not only that, there were also discussions regarding the possibility of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Science and Technology which houses the Mathematics study program.
The discussion, which took place in the meeting room of the Mathematics Study Program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, focused on the topic of celestial darkness and solar sunspots, with Nanang Widodo providing deep insights from an astrophysics perspective. This meeting became a venue to discuss internship opportunities that could be provided to students participating in the MBKM program. Nanang Widodo highlighted the added value of hands-on experience at LAPAN for students interested in space science.
As part of the discussion, the idea of extending this collaboration to the Faculty of Science and Technology was raised. Nanang Widodo highlighted the importance of cross-disciplinary collaboration in space research. This raises the possibility of an MoU between LAPAN BRIN and UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya’s Faculty of Science and Technology.
The Head of the Mathematics Study Program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Yuniar Farida, MT, positively welcomed the idea. “We see enormous potential in this cross-disciplinary collaboration. By involving the Faculty of Science and Technology, we hope to optimize research potential and provide a more comprehensive internship experience for students,” said Yuniar Farida.
The meeting ended with an agreement to continue talks regarding the MoU with the Faculty of Science and Technology. Both parties realize that this collaboration can open the door to larger research projects and make a significant contribution to the development of science in the field of space and technology. Hopefully, this collaboration can create synergies that are beneficial for both institutions.
