In the era of the Industrial Revolution 5.0 which marks the latest technological breakthroughs, the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) is a central point in the transformation of various sectors of life, including the world of education. In response to this, IndoMS East Java and the Mathematics Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya work together to organize a webinar entitled: “Developing Innovative Learning Media Based on Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. The event was held online on Saturday, November 25, 2023 and was attended by hundreds of participants with educator backgrounds.
The two main speakers who shared their insights and experiences in using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the quality of learning media were Prof. Dr. techn. Mohammad Isa Irawan, MT, from the Machine Learning and Big Data Laboratory, Department of Mathematics, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Nurissaidah U., M.Kom from the Mathematics Study Program of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Isa Irawan, in his presentation, highlighted the rapid development of artificial intelligence and its increasingly widespread use in everyday life. He said, “In just the last five years, AI has gone from academic research to a major discussion at the international level, including in UN forums.”
He emphasized the potential of AI to improve learning, such as creating curriculum tailored to students’ needs and providing quick feedback through tools like Top Hat, Kopilot Pendidikan, and ChatGPT. Prof. Dr. Irawan also highlighted the use of AI in providing learning tailored to students’ difficulty levels and learning styles.
The second speaker, Nurissaidah, shared the practice of using AI in creating learning media. She mentioned the use of Lumen for text-based video creation, Google Slides optimization using AI, the use of Gamma for automation of more interactive presentation materials, and Quizziz for making quiz questions from input presentation materials, modules or blogs.
Yuniar Farida, Head of Mathematics Department at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, also gave a statement about the importance of integrating artificial intelligence in mathematics learning. “This event is good because it provides an opportunity for educators to understand more about the use of AI technology in learning,” said Yuniar Farida.
She emphasized that artificial intelligence can be an effective tool in shaping a more innovative and adaptive future for mathematics education. “I hope this kind of activity can continue to be held in order to continue to enrich and advance mathematics learning in Indonesia.” she concluded.
