CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY MEETS ACADEMIC WRITING: ENGLISH LITERATURE DEPARTMENT UIN SUNAN AMPEL SURABAYA EXPLORES AI TO ENHANCE SCIENTIFIC WRITINGS

The English Literature Department of the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya held a Technical Assistance on Writing Scientific Papers on Tuesday, March 14th, 2023. With the theme “Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Explore New Avenues of Investigation,” the event was attended by renowned speakers, Zulidyana Dwi Rusnalasari, M.Hum (Head of the PR and Cooperation Division of Relawan Jurnal Indonesia) and Sufi Ikrima Sa’adah, M.Hum. (Journal Manager of NOBEL: Journal of Literature and Language Teaching, who shared their expertise in writing and journalism.

Under the moderation of Ramadhina Ulfa Nuristama, MA, a lecturer of the English Literature Program, the activity aimed to enhance the scientific paper writing skills of students in the English Literature department and to introduce them to the innovative technology of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic writing. AI has emerged as a pivotal tool in data collection, data analysis, and new findings generation in research, making it indispensable in the world of academic writing.

The event’s speakers, Zulidyana Dwi Rusnalasari, M.Hum, and Sufi Ikrima Sa’adah, M.Hum, elaborated on using AI technology in scientific writing, such as Elicit, Research Rabbit, and Google Scholar for literature review, and organizing references for scientific writing using Reference Manager software. The Technical Assistance on Writing Scientific Papers was attended by all sixth-semester students of the English Literature Program at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. It was held both offline at the Laboratorium Agama of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, Gunung Anyar campus, and online via the Zoom application.

Suhandoko, M.Pd., the committee chairman, highlighted the event’s objective of providing significant benefits to participants in utilizing technology, especially AI, to prepare and complete their scientific papers. The Technical Guidance, while encouraging the use of technology, emphasized the importance of prudence and judiciousness in its utilization.

Overall, the Technical Assistance on Writing Scientific Papers was a resounding success, providing students with valuable knowledge and skills that will undoubtedly aid them in their future academic endeavors.
