Short-Term Inbound Mobility Program: “Introducing Moderate Indonesian Islam”

Faculty of Theology and Philosophy (Fakultas Ushuluddin dan Filsafat – FUF), UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, proudly presents a unique short-term inbound mobility program designed for international students: “Introducing Moderate Indonesian Islam”.

This intensive program offers a profound opportunity for students from our partner universities {Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)} to immerse themselves in the vibrant and diverse landscape of moderate Islam in Indonesia. Through a rich blend of academic sessions, cultural workshops, and community engagement, participants will gain a deep, firsthand understanding of the principles of balance, tolerance, and harmony that characterize religious life in the world’s largest Muslim-majority country.

This program is a key initiative in supporting Indonesia’s cultural diplomacy and promoting its role as a global center for moderate and inclusive Islam.

Program Highlights & Learning Outcomes:

• Academic Insight: Engage in seminars and lectures by expert practitioners and scholars on topics such as the history of Islam in the archipelago, the role of Islamic mass organizations in religious moderation, and the development of contemporary Qur’anic and Hadith studies in Indonesia.
• Cultural Immersion: Experience the living tradition of Indonesian Islam through visits to significant sites like the magnificent Al-Akbar Mosque in Surabaya and the historical region of Probolinggo.
• Community Service (Khidmah): Participate in a social contribution activity, fostering direct interaction with the local community.
• Networking: Build lasting academic and cultural connections with fellow students from Malaysia and Indonesia.
• Certification: Participants will receive a certificate of completion from UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.

• Date: 18-31 Agustus 2025
• Locations: Surabaya and Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia.
• Participants: Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

Application Requirements:

Interested students from our partner institutions are required to prepare the following documents for the selection process:

1. Completed application form
2. Scan of passport information page
3. Academic transcript
4. Letter of Recommendation from faculty
5. Statement of Purpose
6. Health Certificate

This program is offered through our institutional partnerships. Students from partner universities should express their interest through the international office of their home university for nomination.
