Cultural Planning Approach in Religious Moderation Villages

Welcome to an Interfaith Economic Empowerment Experience in the Highlands of East Java

The Summer Course Program 2025 is an immersive academic and cultural journey designed to introduce students and young professionals to the power of interfaith collaboration, cultural planning, and economic empowerment rooted in Indonesia’s rural and religiously moderate communities.

Organized by Economic Departement of Islamic Economic and Business Faculty of Islamic State University Sunan Ampel Surabaya, this international summer course will take place from October 20–24, 2025, and will be held in various villages within Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java, a region known for its unique blend of traditional culture, religious tolerance, and grassroots economic innovation.

Program Objectives

This course aims to:

  1. Foster cross-cultural understanding and interfaith cooperation in religiously diverse villages.
  2. Explore the intersection of Islamic economic values, creative rural economies, and community-based development.
  3. Provide hands-on field experience through immersive village stays and local engagement.
  4. Develop participants’ capacity in cultural planning and grassroots economic strategy toward sustainable development.
